International Students
It is assumed that elective students from non-English speaking countries will have a reasonable level of English proficiency before commencing an elective attachment.
Availability
Dubbo campus will accept elective applications from international medical students who are in their final or penultimate year of study.
Orange campus does not offer elective placements to international students.
Applications
Applications and their accompanying documents should be submitted at least three months prior to the desired commencement date.
Students are required to submit originals or certified copies of the following documents. Documents must be in English, or have a certified English translation attached.

Personal health insurance and/or travel insurance should be arranged before coming to Australia (with full hospital and medical insurance).
Students should be aware that some documents take time to organise.
Visas
It is the student applicant's responsibility to contact their nearest Australian mission to obtain the appropriate visa.
We recommend that you apply for your visa as soon as possible - approval can take considerable time.
The School of Rural Health does not provide advice on visa requirements. Wherever possible, we recommend that you visit your nearest Australian Mission in person to obtain advice that is specifically applicable to your situation.

Students are required to comply with the following policies relating to health and vaccinations:

During the elective, students may not take a leave of absence from an elective program without the permission of The School of Rural Health.
At the end of the elective all students must return a completed evaluation form signed by their mentor before they depart.
Costs
- A non-refundable fee of AU$100 must accompany the application form or it will not be processed. Payment is by Mastercard, Visa or bank cheque and by completion of an application form. Electronic transfer of funds is not available.
- All other fees can be paid either by bank cheque or cash (in Australian dollars) on arrival in Dubbo.
- A$650.00 for an elective of up to 4 weeks
- A$800.00 for an elective of 8 weeks
These payments can only be accepted in cash.
