Student accommodation expands
On 5 March, the new student accommodation building, which will house up to 10 extra students at the Dubbo campus, was officially opened by the Chancellor of The University of Sydney, Professor Marie Bashir. Other distinguished guests included the Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr Michael Spence, and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Bruce Robinson.
After the official opening guests, staff and students were taken on a tour of the new building and then treated to a delicious afternoon tea that was held on the verandah of the new student centre.
The new complex consists of two 4-bedroom units that each have a common kitchen, lounge and dining area, as well as two bathrooms. The units have been beautifully appointed with modern furnishings and appliances. Students are also supplied with a computer and 24 hour access to broadband internet. As well as these two larger units, another smaller two bedroom unit is available, with cooking facilities, bathroom and lounge room.
The building also houses the new student centre, which is available to students 24 hours a day. This area can be used for social events, a quiet place to relax, or somewhere to entertain guests – the centre even has its own fully equipped kitchen. Outside, the School has provided a BBQ and all-weather entertainment area for use by students. It truly is a home away from home.
